I always love reading posts like this because isn’t it fascinating to see in other people’s homes?? I even like going to open houses just to see how others decorate and to get ideas for my own home.

I’m definitely not an interior designer but do appreciate home design and since I’ve had a home of my own, I’ve really enjoyed looking at home magazines, shopping for special home accessories, and personalizing my own space. I really like incorporating original art, refurbished antiques, and thrifted items. Obviously everything is a work-in-progress but I’m learning how to be happy with the things I currently have and making them work with the space. I like Nate Berkus‘s quote that “your home should rise up to meet you.” I want my home to be a reflection of who my husband and I are and greet us with feelings of peacefulness, inspiration, and relaxation.

My parents have definitely influenced how I see my home and have given my a large appreciation for DIY projects, paying on a dime, and working with what you have. Some of my pieces were even built by my dad or are projects that I’ve done with my mom. :)

Dustin is also enjoying building pieces for our house, which I love benefiting from! I can’t wait to show what he’s done!

I’ll start with the living room which is the first thing you come to when you open the door.

These are a couple painting reproductions I did:

My dad built our TV cabinet for us!

My mom and I re-covered the pillows that came with the couch:

Talullah likes to be in the pictures. haha

I love owls, Dustin gave me that owl cookie jar for Christmas.

Our Bedroom:

Our DIY headboard was a joint effort between me and Dustin and both my parents. I love it! And my mom recovered that chair for me and I made the pillow on it.

Of course our suitcase dog bed ;)

Hope you enjoyed!

You might have seen this idea before… it won the 2008 design sponge DIY contest. When I saw this idea, I loved it and really wanted to do it for my dog, Talullah! My husband found this vintage suitcase at a local antique store for $18. Then we bought some wood feet for it and screwed them on the bottom. For the cushion, I picked out 2 different fabrics and made a reversible pillow. I finished it off with a little hand drawn art. Can you tell she already loves it? Way cuter than any dog beds you can buy at the store. Thanks Kristen for this idea!

MONDAY INSPIRATION | decorating with white

Sometimes I think white is overlooked when decorating homes… aren’t these just gorgeous?

Found via decor8 and this photostream.

Last week Dustin and I drove to Stockton, Missouri to visit his parents. Wow what a long drive but it was definitely worth it!  Both his sisters and their families also drove down and met us so there was a house full of 15 people at one point!

Our trip consisted of visiting, thrift shopping in Springfield, eating home-cooked meals, a kitchen makeover, and a senior photo session – which I’ll show later! Here’s some pictures I captured along the way…

A couple of my finds in Springfield:

1) Shirt $2.00
2) Mini McCoy Pitcher $6.00
3) Vintage 50’s Shorts $35.00
4) Vintage Wrangler Shirt for my Hubby $18.00
5) Wall Hanging $3.00

Lastly Dustin and I helped his mom redo her kitchen! I guess I inherited my parents’ gene of doing projects while visiting friends/family! haha She had been wanting to get rid of that wallpaper ever since she moved in so we thought it would be a great time to do so! She loves the new color and is planning a couple other projects to complete the makeover. Here’s the before and after:

I’ve been wanting to add a little curb appeal to my front door so it prompted me to look for a little inspiration. I’m hoping my HOA lets me paint my door a fun color! Right now its beige like everything else in Arizona :/

So are you inspired to spruce up your door??

Great color combo:

I looove these teal planters:

That black door is just cool:
