REUPHOLSTERED | glider chair

Chair 003

I’m happy to show you my first reupholstering job! My friend Amber and I recovered this glider chair and matching ottoman that she found for $50 bucks at a garage sale. She wanted to cover it with some fun fabric that matched her baby nursery and we both thought the shape could use some updating, which is why we added the buttons. We really didn’t know what we were doing so we just kind of guessed and started measuring! Here’s what the cushions looked like before.

Before (faded and outdated):

After (pretty and matching):

Chair 004

It’s amazing what a little fabric will do!

Amber is the same friend I painted wall flowers for and now that we are finished with the chair, her nursery is complete! On her baby blog, you can see some video she captured of the completed nursery. I love all the little details she added to bring it all together and personalize it!

  1. This chair makes me happy. It’s definitely the focal point of the room for me… well, just until Felicity gets here!

You guys did a great job. I’m looking forward to more of your reupholstering jobs in the future!

  2. great job kelly!! Your inspiring me to give it a go without mom’s help!

  3. Wow, that is beautiful! I am looking to do this for my nursery as well, but am a bit scared I will botch the whole thing. Was it very difficult to do? I may just hire someone instead. :)

    • I definitely recommend doing it yourself! It actually wasn’t too difficult… we measured the fabric a little more than we thought we would need and it turned out it was too much so I had to sew the top seam in a couple times. But I guess it’s better to have too much fabric than not enough! You will get better the more you do it!

  5. This is SO COOL! I LOVE IT! :D

  6. “$50 bucks at a garage sale” but how much was the fabric and other materials?
    In any case great deal.
My wife can’t get over the “eww” factor of old furniture because of the smelly cushions or whatever, and doesn’t think we can reupholster and have it look fresh and new.
I will show her this link – thank you!

  7. You’ve inspired me. I picked up my chair for $25, now to reupholster. Only thing I Can’t figure out is how to do the snaps on the arms. Any suggestions???

  8. Hi Crystal, that’s great! If I remember correctly we sewed the arms shut – we didn’t use buttons. Good luck with your chair! Send me a link when you’re done! I’d love to see it!
